The perfect season for Braidholm boys

GHA’s young guns showed they have what it take by winning their league at a canter.

The rugby club’s under 18s became West league champions with a 100 per cent winning record.

Captain Andrew Goudie told ExtraSport: “Beating Whitecraigs in a tough game to win the league was a great feeling but winning the league with a 100 per cent record was our target and to have achieved that is amazing.”

The southsiders’ final game was a 19-12 win against Waysiders in atrocious conditions thanks to tries from Scott Plumridge, Andrew Goudie and Zander Gregor.

The team were boulstered by a mass pre-season recruitment drive.

Head coach Paul Tyler commented: “Following several single figure pre-season sessions the players were charged with recruiting team mate. Over fiveweeks, a squad of 26 players was assembled with a mixture of returning and new players.

“This is the closest knit squad I’ve ever worked with. The fact they built the squad themselves has created the sort of team spirit that coaches dream of being able to create.”
