Jags wouldn’t be heading for Ibrox at the foot of the table had they beaten Motherwell on Saturday.

And a frustrated Archibald admitted that, after dominating the first half, his side had let the Fir Parkers off the hook as they escaped with a point after a 1-1 draw.

He said: “I thought we controlled the first half.

“I was very pleased with it. We created a number of chances.

“At the moment we look like we need to score two goals to win the game.

“It’s very frustrating. I think we should have been out of sight.

“There are fine margins in this league. There’s not a lot in it and you can’t control the game for 90 minutes.”

Thistle’s last visit to Ibrox was in 2008 for a Scottish Cup quarter-final when they drew 1-1 before, typically for Thistle, losing the replay at home.

Their last league game there was in 2004 when they lost 2-0 while their last Ibrox victory was way back in 1981 when a certain Maurice Johnston scored one of the goals - George Clark getting the other - in a 2-0 success.
