Time for a change at GHA

Driving the new era is a trio of under 30s in director of rugby Rangi Jericevich (29), head coach Craig Sorbie (29) and player-coach Peter Jericevich, a 25-year-old Scotland club and sevens international.

Currently, of the teams in Glasgow, only Glasgow Hawks are in the Premiership.

New coach Craig Sorbie, believes that needs to change, and GHA are just the team to make the step up.

“Ayr is slightly further away, if we have another team in Premier one, it will give the boys more opportunities to be seen andit will raise interest in club rugby”, said Craig.

“Rangi has been a real force in creating a new era and we as coaches share his vision.

“A lot of clubs have unrealistic ambitions but we have a long term plan for a club that can sustain itself and with small steps, become a force in Premier one.”

Craig also coaches Glasgow u16s and at Hutchesons’ Grammar school. The former GHA and Watsonians stand-off had to retire from playing last year after shoulder reconstruction surgery.

He added: “We are trying to bring more of a professional ethos to the club game.

“We are going to focus more on strength,conditioning, video analysis and nutrition.”

In one of the first moves, the team have established an u20 team, under the guidance of former head coach Paul Tyler. This is with a view to keep talented players at the club until they are ready for senior rugby.

Craig continued:“We will give the guys every opportunity to reach their potential in the club game. A lot of our players have aspirations to go somewhere in rugby, we want to be a club thats give players opportunities to progress and play at the highest level.

“We have identified some areas of weakness but we have a lot of talented boys ready to come up to the mark from both inside, and outside the club.

“Braidholm is somewhere young local players can improve and develop wiith the help of experienced players in the squad and through coaching.We are steering clear of foreigners - it is not sustainable and you don’t know what you’re getting, It’s a risk.”

Former Scotland international Andy Henderson is set to remain at the club as capatain, while adding coaching responsibilities to his role.

Criag added: “I don’t believe in doing anything by halves. GHA are going into the National league next season to win it and we have everything in place to do that.”

GHA u18’s season keeps getting better as they added the Whitecraigs u18 sevens trophy to their trophy cabinet

A 28 – 5 win over West of Scotland in the final included tries for Nigel Kelly, Zander Gregor, Scott Derrick and Euan McKirdy.

The Braidholm boys defeated Ayr, Stirling County, Whitecraigs and Cumnock/Kilmarnock on their way to the final.
