Glenbuck, near Glespin, was the scene for a ceremony attended by 70 people including Bill Shankly’s niece Barbara Alexander and nephew Ian Shankly.

Shankly, who was raised in Glenbuck, won the FA Cup as a Preston player before a glorious managerial career which saw him transform Liverpool from a struggling second division outfit into a major European force.

He died in 1981 at age 68.

Sunday’s ceremony was organised by Robert Gillan of Glespin, currently trying to establish Glenbuck Football Academy.
