John was taking part in the Tennent’s T5s Pro Soccer at Rouken Glen Park recently when he desperately tried to save a goal and slipped trying to scoop the ball off the line – kicking the net instead.

But the southsider only succeeded in costing his side a goal.

John, 32, said afterwards: “I play 5s at Pro-Soccer religiously every week with my pals and there are always plently of highlights that stick in your mind for the rest of the week.

“Usually it’s a great goal or dodgy tackle – but this time, obviously, it’s been my goalkeeping skills.”

The clip – which found its way onto YouTube – has received an estimated 10 million plus hits, making John a bit of a star.

The hapless keeper tells us: “I can’t believe how much attention the clip has had. Not sure you could call this a highlight, unfortunately, but it seems to be giving people a good laugh, so I’m taking it all in good spirits.”

Thankfully, John’s team lost by two goals – meaning his blunder didn’t make too much of a difference to the outcome of the match.

Now John wants to find out the culprit who posted the clip online.
