‘Well remembered

FORMER Motherwell striker Mark Archdeacon is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces when his old side head to Cumbernauld on league cup duty on Wednesday.

Archdeacon (21), now at third division Clyde, made one first team appearance for ‘Well in a Europa League tie against Llanelli before heading to Brechin City.

Having disposed of one old side in the last round of the Scottish Communities League Cup, he now has his focus on another.

He said: “To get one of my former sides Brechin in the last round was good, and to get Motherwell in this round is even better and we’re all looking forward to it.

“I was at Motherwell from the age of 15 so since the draw was made I’ve been getting texts from some of the guys I played with like Jamie Murphy and Ross Forbes.

“I’m still quite pally with them and looking forward to seeing them again.

“It would have been nice to go back to Fir Park, but in the cups who are always hoping for a home draw, and really would have taken any SPL club.

“We have got that advantage which we have to make count and I’m sure it will be a good game for everyone involved.”

Archdeacon has thus far played a cameo role in Clyde’s season after injury allowed the free-scoring Steph McDonald to nudge ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite coming on as a sub last week against Brechin and scoring one and making another in the 4-2 win, Archdeacon found himself back on the bench on Saturday.

Not that he was complaining too loudly as McDonald scored his third goal in three games to add to John Sweeney’s first half wonder strike as the Bully Wee saw off third division title favourites Peterhead 2-0.

He said: “I got a bad knock in pre-season,.

“Although I was able to come back and get a goal against Brechin I can’t really complain about the manager not changing the team as the boys have done brilliantly so far.

“It’s a really young team so it’s perhaps a little surprising just how well we’ve started, but the boys have been working hard, so hopefully it will be a good platform for the rest of the reason.

“Peterhead are the favourites for the third division so to have beaten them just a week after beating Brechin, who I’m sure will be one of the favourites for the second division, was excellent, but we’re not getting carried away.

“A cup run is always a bonus, but our main focus is the league, and while its been a good start, that’s all it’s been - a start!”
