Young skating star Brodie's got it all figured out

A 10-year-old figure skater from Cumbernauld has won a place in the Great Britain Development squad.

Proud dad John Sneddon says daughter Brodie’s success is a huge achievement for a girl of her age to reach in such a relatively short space of time.

He said: “Brodie has been skating competitively since 2014 and in that time has podiumed 10 times in 15 competitions, only finishing out of the top ten once.

“Brodie set her sights high this year by progressing from level 1 to level 4 over the last six months to enable her to be in the position to gain entry into the GB Squad and possibly qualify for the British Championships in December.

“Out of all of her goals that she set herself only British Championship qualification has eluded her, but only just.”

Brodie, from Carrickstone, attends Cumbernauld Primary School.

Her roll of honour so far includes victories in the Blackpool Ice Skating Festival (twice), Ayr Open and Magnum Open.

She also has achieved second place finishes in the Bradford Open, Murrayfield Open and Skate Ayrshire competitions and thirds in the Blackpool and Magnum events and the Dundee Open.

By now training with the GB Squad Brodie now has the opportunity to compete on the international stage.

She trains at North Lanarkshire Figure Skating Club which meets at The Timecapsule in Coatbridge twice a week. She also trains on a Monday and Thursday morning in The Timecapsule, on a Saturday at Murrayfield Ice Rink in Edinburgh and all day on a Sunday at The Peak in Stirling.
