Young stars called up for School Games

Two young Bearsden athletes have been called up to represent Scotland in a major Olympic-style multi-sports competition.

Jade Henry and Holly Little will be part of the Scottish team taking part in the 2016 School Games next month.

And they will be joined by Milngavie swimmer Zoe McDonald who will represent Scotland North & West.

The national multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes will take place at Loughborough University and Sheffield from September 1-4.

Jade (15) will compete in the 80 metres hurdles and the 4x100 metres relay while Holly (16) has been chosen for the 1500 metres steeplechase.

Both girls attend Bearsden Academy and train at Scotstoun Stadium.

Boclair Academy pupil Zoe (15) trains at Milngavie and Bearsden Amateur Swimming Club and is making her second School Games appearance.

Jade said: “I am very honoured and proud to be selected for the School Games and I am looking forward to wearing the Scotland kit for the first time. I can’t wait for the challenge of competing against the top athletes in the UK.”

Holly added: “I am excited and proud to represent my country at the School Games. It has motivated me to train harder than ever. This is a great reward for me and my family.”

And Zoe said: “I’m really happy and excited that I will get to represent Scotland for a second time at the School Games in September.”
