Did you wake up this morning in one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Glasgow? The city is a patchwork of areas with their own sense of identity, local food and drink scene, music, attitude, parks, independent shops and great streets to live on.
Join us as we explore the neighbourhoods that provide the coolest local lifestyle in Glasgow for 2024 - and where you should visit when you go there.
5. Maryhill
Maryhill is underrated, but more people are beginning to realise just what the Venice of the North has to offer. You can find some of the best community pubs in Glasgow, like the Woodside Inn. An Ibiza Café is set to open in Maryhill next month too! The canal is a great spot for walks, cycles, jogging, or just meandering along.
6. Govanhill
Govanhill is the most multicultural place in the whole of Scotland, more languages and ethnicities are represented in this neighbourhood than anywhere else in the country. You can get some of the best authentic Pakistani street food you'll ever have and then jump across the road for an Italian gelato or a Kurdish kebab. Victoria Road may just be our favourite street in Glasgow for that very reason. Queen's Park lies just at the end of the street too, an amazing space in the summer to enjoy whatever food and drink you've picked up along Vicky Road. (Pic: Govanhill Go)
7. Merchant City
Several businesses in the Merchant City have been vying to make the space Glasgow's own gay village. New spaces like The Corset Club joins the charge on this front - with cabaret, drag, and an eclectic mix of shows playing 7 days a week, just along from the Polo Lounge. There's a lot of late-night fun to be hand in the district just off the city centre, like late night bowling at Bowl-o-rama, pints in The Amsterdam and tandoori at The Dhabba. In our experience the Merchant City is one of the most inclusive spaces in Glasgow, and well worth a visit next time you're out for a night on the town.
8. Finnieston
We all knew Finnieston was going to be on this list. It's without a doubt a great place to live, with so much going on down the West End of Argyle Street. You can head to Kelvingrove Art Gallery at the drop of a hat, enjoy incredible food at the posh chippie Sole Club, or grab some of the finest cocktails in the city from spaces like The Finnieston or Kelvingrove Café. If you're a music or arts fan there's always an exhibition or gig on at the SWG3 just down the road in Yorkhill, it's no surprise so many newcomers and students opt to stay in Finnieston. Perfectly positioned for maximum cool in Glasgow.
