Last year 16-year-olds Hannah Mitchell, Kristi Aikman, Courtney Meikle and Jenni Dyet successfully completed the Race for Life raising £1,800 for the cancer charity.

However, this year the Lesmahagow High pupils were unable to commit to the training due to exams. But the girls were undeterred and organised a charity night in Coalburn Miners Welfare which featured entertainment and a raffle.

The girls smashed last year’s total raising more than £3,000.

Jenni said: “We all had a really good night and we didn’t think we could get anywhere near our target so to raise £3,000 was unbelievable.

“We have to thank everyone who came along or helped in any way.
