Glasgow’s Southside is one of the most authentic places in the city - and that’s exemplified no better than in the many traditional pubs in the south of the city.
The Southside pub scene has greatly expanded in the last 100 years - but that doesn’t mean some of the same old pubs aren’t still serving pints.
Join us as we take a trip down memory lane with 15 of the last-standing ‘proper’ old-school pubs of Glasgow’s Southside.

5. The Bell Jar
The Bell Jar was taken over by the same team as The Sparkle Horse over in the West End back in 2018. Previously called the Life O’ Reilly, the pub was saved from closure, retaining the local pub near Queen’s Park in keeping with its traditional pub roots. (PIc: Time Out) | Time Out

6. Queens Park Cafe
This popular south side local is well-loved by the community around Queens Park. Mark McManus of Taggart fame regarded the Queens Park Cafe as his local. There’s been a pub on the site as far back as 1870. It was named the Queens Park Cafe in the 1890’s. | Contributed

7. The Georgic
The Georgic has been on Pollokshaws Road for the better half of a century now - and it’s just as inviting as the day they opened. | Contributed

8. MJ Heraghty’s
Heraghty’s in the Southside is a small Edwardian drinkers’ pub with an elegant carved back gantry that is adorned with mirrors, columns and decorative capitals. The bar counter, which has modern tiles around the base, was installed in the 1930s, which is the date of the Art Deco stained glass. | Contributed
