9. Shucks
Rating: Very Good. “Shucks brings seafood with swagger to the upscale Hyndland neighbourhood – think airy loft-style dining meets chic Champagne and oyster bar. Menu headings include ‘raw, cured and smoked’, ‘shellfish’, ‘from the fire’ and ‘fish fillets’, along with a sheet of daily changing specials.”
10. Bilson Eleven
Rating: Good. “Chef/owner Nick Reitz offers a single 10-course tasting menu with no adaptations, even for vegetarians. Despite this narrow focus, he conjures and personally serves well-conceived flavour combinations riffing loosely across Scottish and classical French influences.”
11. Eighty Eight
Rating: Good. “Dishes ramble confidently around the Med: crispy patatas bravas croquettes adorned with aïoli segue easily into a more Lebanese-influenced aubergine accompanied by burnt-onion yoghurt, preserved lemon and pomegranate.”
12. Ka Pao
Rating: Good. “Although it can occasionally veer towards hot cooking rather than haute cuisine, it certainly hits that ‘addictive’ spot where sweetness, sharpness, chilli heat and aromatics collide. You’ll leave with your taste buds popping and your ears tingling.” Photo: Naomi Vance
