Having supported the theatre workshop in a number of ways, Councillor Stewart said: "This is a great example of partnership working between the council and members of a community organisation to develop and improve local facilities.

"I am sure the people of Biggar and the surrounding area will be delighted with the refurbishment."

The Corn Exchange work, which cost around 500,000, includes new retractable seating, new interior, roof repairs and external stonework.

Inside, the 115-seat capacity crowd will be well catered for with a new kitchen and seating facilities while the performers will enjoy the brand new state-of-the-art sound and lighting system.

Rooms upstairs have also been refurbished.
