You only have to take a walk along Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street to see buildings which were once bustling sites, no longer in use with one of the most recent examples being the former Dino Ferrari premises which is now empty.
Some of these sites are fantastic architectural glories which have been left abandoned with no clear plan about their future, meaning that some have became open to the elements which can be very unforgiving due to the weather which hits the city
Here are eighteen buildings in the city which are still standing but no longer in use.

1. Lion Chambers, Hope Street
The architecturally unique Lion Chambers has been abandoned since 1995 having been one of the city’s celebrated architectural designs. Although Glasgow City Council say they are committed to preserving the building, there is still no clear plan for its future. Photo: Copyright Historic Environment Scotland

2. 28-36 Bath Street
The 2-storey building on the northwest corner of Bath Street and West Nile Street was once home to the Iron Horse pub which closed its doors in 2020. Plans for a £30 million hotel on the site were scrapped in 2023. | Historic Environment Scotland

3. Charles Oakley Campus
The 7-storey Charles Oakley Building on Cathedral Street was built between 1959 and 1963. External inspection finds that the building appears to be vacant. There is limited visibility of elements on the roof. The plant structures and gymnasium appear to be secure and stable from limited assessment from ground level. | Historic Environment Scotland

4. Waverley Cinema (Former)
The Southside building which dates back to 1922 recently went to auction at the end of August. The site is in poor condition. The Waverley Tea Rooms closed its doors in 2017 and the building has been empty ever since. | Historic Environment Scotland
