Cyclist Sarah is Scotsvolunteer of the year

A YOUNG Paisley cyclist has won an award for her dedication to coaching, writes Gregor Hollerin.

She’s Sarah Mitchell (18) of Johnstone Wheelers, who beat off stiff competition to take home the young volunteer of the year 2010 award for her involvement with the Glasgow Riderz club.

These annual accolades are presented by Scottish Cycling as a celebration of the hard work and dedication of volunteers who help the sport.

Sarah told ExtraSport: “I am delighted to receive this award and would like to thank Glasgow Riderz and Scottish Cycling because they have encouraged me to develop the skills which I am now passing to the young riders through my own coaching.”

Scottish Cycling’s chief executive Jackie Davidson, told ExtraSport: “Sarah’s dedication to cycling, coaching and the club she is involved with is testament to her commitment to the sport and the youngsters she works with”.

Miss Mitchell has been a cyclist since she was three and knew from the age of 12 that she wanted to race.

She has been a member of the Glasgow Riderz for four years, and is currently midway through studies to gain a level two coaching qualification.
