First ever Airlink bus from Cumbernauld to Glasgow Aiport ready for launch

A public transport first has been struck in Cumbernauld after it emerged that a new bus link will be launched to Glasgow Airport.

Stagecoach East Scotland has confirmed that it will provide hourly journeys to the airport by extending its popular X24 service from Monday, August 15.

And in a bonus for shoppers, the same service, which begins in St Andrew’s will alight at Braehead shopping centre before reaching its final destination.

The luxury coaches involved will boast large luggage lockers designed to accommodate additional numbers of suitcases.

The company has already been running a very successful service to Edinburgh Airport from Fife and identified a gap in the market for holidaymakers using Glasgow as an alternative.

Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director said: “We’re excited to be launching a direct public transport link for business and leisure travellers straight to the terminal.

“It will provide a great value travel option to reach the airport.

“Our period return tickets are valid for 28 days so there is no need to worry about airport parking. Customers can just jump on the coach and start their holiday.”

The news has been welcomed by Cumbernauld Commuters Association.

Chairman Andrew Stephen said: “This is a very useful and direct service.”

Stagecoach hit headlines earlier this year when it opted to base its West of Scotland operation in Carbrain.
