He said: “I relish the opportunity to demonstrate to the people of East Renfrewshire how the Liberal Democrats are standing up for the interests of all in the constituency.

“By raising the personal allowance we have made taxes fairer.

“We are committed to seeing the Smith Commission powers delivered for Holyrood.

“The pupil premium, free school meals and childcare support — all policies championed by us in England — could all be introduced in Scotland with the resources available to Holyrood.

“I am proud of the Liberal Democrats’ record of delivery in government and will run a positive campaign.”

The candidate for May’s election has the backing of local Lib Dem chair and former provost of East Renfrewshire Alex Mackie.

He added: “We are absolutely delighted to have selected Graeme.

“He is rooted in good liberal values of personal freedom and opportunity for all and is a great communicator, not jusrt bringing the vitality of youth but a sharp intellect.”
