Mossend pub calls time

A pub that was at the heart of the Mossend community for decades has called time.

The Derby Inn is now closed and plans have been lodged to set up a signmaking and digital printing business in the building.

The pub used to have a thriving function suite which hosted the Bellshill Speaker Citizen of the Year award.

The building was partially demolished some years back to make way for a housing development, but the bar remained.

Back in the 1970s the Derby led the way in sport sponsorship when its name was on the shirts of the Bellshill Athletic football team.

A former customer said: “It’s a sad day. It used to be when you arranged to meet someone in Mossend the Derby was the place to go.”
