Narrow escape for Cleghorn soldier Steven Cox

Cleghorn soldier Steven Cox was shot by the Taliban during a six-month tour of Afghanistan – but lived to tell the tale.

Steven (21), who has just returned home to stay with his parents, was fired at from behind in Shin Kalay, Helmand Province, as he and fellow Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders investigated Taliban activity last November 15.

Recalling the scene, he said: “The bullet had gone through my pouch and tourniquet – which was hanging from my Osprey body armour. If I hadn’t been wearing that I would have been in a lot of pain.”

For more information on the attack and Steven’s subsequent tour of duty, pick up a copy of this week’s Carluke and Lanark Gazette which is in the shops now.
