Fundraising ‘zebra’ begins walk from Chester to Glasgow for Ehlers-Danlos charity

A former Glasgow man has embarked on ‘A Wee Walk Home’ to the city - trekking 370km from Chester dressed as a zebra!

Adam Wallace, originally from the city’s Carnwadric area, began his journey yesterday (Wednesday, October 2) and is due to arrive at his final destination, St Vincent’s Primary School, Carnwadric, around 1pm on Thursday, October 10.

Adam is walking in aid of Ehlers-Danlos Support UK.

His younger brother Luke is part of a small community of people who suffer with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – a rare condition that affects every part of their life, and body.

He is hoping to raise £5000 to help the charity’s work in educating, informing and raising awareness to support those living with Ehlers-Danlos, and to help fund vital research.

Adam said: “Ehlers-Danlos syndrome has no cure. With your help and awareness, we can raise funds to support priority research areas.”

Adam had originally planned on completing the walk from his current home in Chester with his partner Marcus, but unfortunately Marcus has had to pull out after injurying his ankle. However, Adam decided to go ahead anyway.

Laura Wallace, mum of Adam and Luke, explained why the St Vincent’s Primary School was Adam’s destination.

“Luke is a past pupil of St Vincent’s Primary and during the seven years he attended there, the staff and school in general supported him and helped him with his condition,” she said. “Nothing was too much for them, ensuring Luke had a comfortable and safe place to be.

“On June 26 this year, the whole school had a ‘Pretend we are at the beach’ day. The weather was amazing and everyone wore their shorts and t-shirts with sunglasses and sun hats. It was games, fun and ice lollies all day.

“Everyone made a small donation, and a total of £370 was made on the day. Absolutely amazing.

“So, we all felt it would be great to show the school how much we appreciate all the support, love and kindness they have given Adam and Luke.”
