Former Cumbernauld councillor has passed away

Shortly after the Cumbernauld News went to press, it emerged that former councillor Vincent Murray had passed away.

The former Labour representative served on Cumbernauld and Kilsyth District Council and also served for one term at North Lanarkshire Council from 1995 to 1999

A former assistant head teacher at St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch, Vincent was also heavily involving in establishing local recycling charity Recap.

MSP Mark Griffin was first to pay tribute to this leading public figure in the life of Cumbernauld.

Mr Griffin said: It is with sadness that I learned of Vincent’s passing.

“Vincent was a dedicated public servant, committed to serving his community, as a teacher, local activist and councillor.

“My condolences, and the condolences of the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Labour Party, are extended to Vincent’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
