A CEILIDH band competition has been added to the schedule of the BIG KIC festival, with a prize of £500 up for grabs.

The Craigenroan Cup will be open to all working ceilidh bands with four or more members.

The bands will be invited to play at the Clan KICS celebration in Colzium Estate on Saturday August 14.

Alan Stevenson, project manager for the Craigenroan Cup, said: "As a ceilidh band player myself I know how hard these musicians work and we felt it was very fitting to reward their talent at an event that is all about promoting and preserving Scottish heritage".

Also appearing at Colzium Estate for Clan KICS, fresh from the set of the new Robin Hood film, are the Clanranald Trust's combat group.

Their rousing re-enactments will bring history to life across the site with medieval forts, roman encampments and forest kitchens being built for the occasion.

In addition, all of the usual funfair, craft markets, food, drink and a high energy closing performance from Celtic-Latin fusion band Salsa Celtica will ensure the inaugural Clan KICS becomes a major new event on calendar.

"These events, coupled with the wide range of attractions and activities in the area, are helping to bolster the local economy and support a progressive tourism industry in Lanarkshire which now generates 315m per year."
