Refugees from Syria are headed towards North Lanarkshire

The second planeload of refugees which will touch down in Glasgow next week will see 40 Syrian refugees housed in North Lanarkshire

However, it has emerged that the 12 families involved will not be housed in either Cumbernauld or Kilsyth.

This is because the homes allocated to them are in Coatbridge and Airdrie.

The council area is expected to welcome a total of Syrian refugees by 2020 but has no details of future arrivals at this stage.

It is thought however that other parts of the authority will be considered during the course of the resettlement programme.

Funding for this comes from the UK Goverment’s International Aid Budget.
