Shop owners fury at Carluke BID

Elizabeth (40), boss of High Street store Bargain Land, said that her business faced closure “imminently” due to the cost pressures involved in an initiative launched last October.

She raged: “I won’t be paying the £500 BID bill.

“All I want from being in the BID is for the people running it to pay for parking bays to be built outside the shops in Carluke High Street.

“My shop has made a loss in each of the past two years and will have to close soon because we can’t afford to pay the BID levy. The current situation is not helping me as a trader and I’m now at crisis point.

“There are a lot of independent traders in the High Street who feel the same.”

Elizabeth said that she and 13 other Carluke businessfolk were ‘up in arms’ with BID bosses over their alleged lack of communication since the scheme launched three months ago.
