The following weekend, Mitchell competed in the National CPC Legends Championship at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, finishing thirteenth in the final race.

Mallory Park near Leicester was next for a frustrating race that the young Cumbernauld driver will mark down to experience after repeated spark plug failures and a torrential downpour meant that just finishing the race was an achievement.

Mitchell is hoping to gain the sponsorship of local companies as he bids to land this year's rookie title. All races are televised on Sky Motors TV.

The sixth round of the Scottish Legends Championship will take place at

Knockhill on Sunday, July 25.

The next two rounds of the National CPC Legends Championship are being held at Anglesey on July 31 and August 1.
