Craigan looking forward to Rangers game

Motherwell under-20s coach Stephen Craigan can't wait for the start of the new competitive Scottish football season this Saturday.

Craigan (39) will be part of the BT Sport team providing live television coverage of the mouthwatering Group F Motherwell v Rangers Betfred League Cup tie at Fir Park.

“Having the raw edge back is great,” Craigan said.

“Competitive football is what people want to see and Motherwell v Rangers at a packed Fir Park will be terrific.

People have talked about moving to summer football, well we’re doing it.

“It is always nice to entice people to watch summer football.

“The kids can wear their new strips.

“And it will be the only live TV game I can ever remember kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday. That is great too.”

Craigan said he would “never say never” to taking on the vacant assistant manager’s post at Motherwell, but said he was “more than happy” with his existing working arrangements.

Also looking ahead to the Rangers game, Motherwell manager Mark McGhee said: “I think this game has come too early for both clubs.

“We can’t be as ready as we will be for the first league game at Kilmarnock (on August 6).

“It is not the biggest game of the season for us, but don’t think I don’t take it seriously.

“I do. I would love to win.”
