Celtic could be set to bank player sell-on fee in January as Rangers target 'outstanding' midfielder

The latest Celtic and Rangers transfer news during the international break

The international break has delivered some tasty results so far this week, with Scotland due to face Greece on Saturday in Attica.

Steve Clarke’s men are currently tied on points with Denmark for a chance to finish top of Group C. They have a huge chance of qualifying for their first World Cup since 1998, which was before some of the current squad were even born.

A play-off spot has already been guaranteed but Scotland will be looking at automatic qualification to honour their hard work.

As Scotland’s full focus is on these upcoming fixtures against Greece and Denmark, we’ve flicked back to domestic football in the meantime to round up the latest transfer news ahead of the winter window.

Celtic could pocket player sell-on fee in January

Celtic could be on track to pocket some extra cash in the new year as former star Kristoffer Ajer becomes the topic of interest in Germany.

According to Sky Sports, Wolfsburg are considering a raid of Premier League club Brentford in January, with Ajer named as one of their targets. The Bundesliga side are revisiting previous talks over the centre-back, having had a £13 million bid rejected by the Bees over the summer.

Ajer signed for Brentford from Celtic in 2021 for a club record fee at the time. Reports during the time of his transfer suggested a sell-on clause was likely added into the deal by the Hoops, who often do insert such clauses into high profile sales.

Ajer spent five-and-a-half years at Parkhead before his move to England to join Brentford ahead of their promotion up to the Premier League. He was also linked with Bayer Leverkusen at the time, but opted to join the project with the Bees instead.

Rangers target ‘outstanding’ young midfielder

Rangers are in pursuit of exciting young midfielder Sani Suleiman, who is attracting attention from multiple clubs across Europe ahead of the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old currently plays for Slovakian club AS Trencin and Rudy Galetti has lauded his performances as ‘outstanding’. With the rest of his career in front of him, clubs are looking to snap him up, with many already ‘tracking his situation closely’.

In an update on his Substack, Galetti has reported that Rangers are among the clubs eyeing Suleiman, with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayer Leverkusen also named as potential suitors. The four clubs have ‘expressed concrete interest’ in the Nigerian starlet, while ‘top Serie A sides’ have also joined the race for his signature.

Suleiman is under contract with Trencin until next summer but the club hold a two-year extension option that they could trigger to keep him until 2028.

The CIES Football Observatory also recently ranked Suleiman in the Top 10 list of U20 players worldwide based on successful dribbles and progressive carries across 66 leagues.

The Rangers target is sixth in the list, just behind impressive names like Lamine Yamal and Yan Diomande.
