Celtic eye transfer market trolley dash to end summer window as 'top priority signing' to spark six-star haul
It’s set to be a busy end to the transfer window at Celtic.
Celtic could be set to raid what’s left of the summer transfer market shelves with six new signings before the deadline.
The Premiership champions have competing priorities this week. Their European squad deadline is 11pm approximately on Wednesday night, where they also host Aberdeen at home a few hours prior on league business, while summer shopping ends for good at 5pm the next day. If Celtic want all their signings involved in Europe, they’ll have to be done inside the next day or so, with their targets beginning to surface.
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is one, as are a clutch of Chelsea prospects, plus midfielders Joel van den Berg and Oliver Sorensen. STV claim that Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis has been top of the transfer list for Celtic all summer in midfield and he is now closing in on Parkhead with a total of six new faces eyed.
How many players could Celtic sign before transfer deadline day?
It’s claimed: “Celtic are close to agreeing a deal for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, with the Scottish Champions eyeing a possible six new arrivals before the deadline. The Lithuanian international has been a top priority signing for Martin O’Neill this summer, and it’s understood there’s been a breakthrough in negotiations over the last 24 hours.
“Gineitis is keen to move to Glasgow. The move comes amidst a flurry of late activity for the Scottish Champions. Dutch midfielder Joel van den Berg and Parma midfielder Oliver SOrensen are set to be announced with English goalkeeper Sam Johnstone close to joining from Wolves. Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka is undergoing a medical ahead of a season-long loan, with the club still actively pushing for a left-back as cover for Kieran Tierney.”
Sky Sports add: “Celtic are close to agreeing a deal for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis. The Lithuania international, 22, has been the club's prime midfield target this summer and is said to be keen to join the Scottish champions. Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka has completed a medical in London ahead of his loan move to Glasgow.

“Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is at the club's training ground after a loan deal was agreed with Wolves. Meanwhile, midfielders Oliver Sorensen and Joel van den Berg are also in Glasgow after undergoing medicals. Sorensen is set to join from Parma on a season-long loan deal, with Celtic having the option to buy. Celtic have agreed a £3.4m deal with PSV Eindhoven for Van den Berg.”
