Celtic fixture shake-up confirmed as Europa League schedule forces eight Premiership games to be rearranged

Celtic’s involvement in the Europa League will add a packed run of midweek fixtures to an already busy domestic calendar

Celtic’s domestic fixture list has undergone a significant reshuffle following confirmation of their Europa League schedule.

The Hoops will see eight of their Scottish Premiership matches affected as a result of their European commitments, after their Champions League campaign came to an end following the 5-4 aggregate qualifying defeat to LASK Linz.

Celtic will now face Ferencvaros, Benfica, Celta Vigo, Besiktas, Torreense, Omonoia, Marseille and Union Saint-Gilloise in the league phase of Europe’s second-tier competition, adding a packed run of midweek fixtures to an already demanding domestic calendar.

As a result, eight Premiership fixtures have been moved to accommodate the European schedule. Three of those changes have now been officially confirmed, while the remaining five are currently provisional and could still be altered depending on television selections.

The Hoops’ schedule throughout October will begin with a trip to Motherwell on October 11, with the match now scheduled to kick off at noon.

The following weekend will see Celtic return to home soil to take on Hearts, with that fixture currently set for a 3pm kick-off on October 18.

Their final October change comes against Hibs at Easter Road, with Martin O’Neill’s side now due to make the trip to the capital on October 25. That match is scheduled for a 12pm start.

There are also further alterations planned for November, December and January.

Celtic’s home meeting with Kilmarnock has been pencilled in for November 8, although that date remains subject to potential broadcast changes. Later in the month, they will travel to Tynecastle to face Hearts on November 29.

December currently features one rearranged fixture, with Hibs due to visit Celtic Park on December 13.

The changes continue into the new year, with the Scottish champions scheduled to travel to St Mirren on January 24 before entertaining Falkirk at home a week later on January 31.

Supporters should be aware that several of the provisional dates could still be altered, particularly those awaiting confirmation of television selections.
