Club director demands record offer from Celtic and Rangers for January transfer target

BK Hacken’s director is demanding a club record transfer fee for this Celtic and Rangers target

Celtic and Rangers will need to provide a ‘very special’ offer if they want to convince BK Hacken to part ways with star midfielder Silas Andersen this month.

That’s according to an update straight from club director Martin Ericsson, who is well aware of the clubs showing interest in Andersen.

It was reported earlier this week that both Glasgow clubs are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old midfielder. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke suggested it would take a ‘real decent fee’ to convince Hacken to part ways with Andersen, and Ericsson has confirmed this.

Celtic and Rangers quoted record fee for Silas Andersen

Ericsson has confirmed Hacken want to keep hold of Andersen for as long as possible but the club know there is rival interest building.

“Our ambition is for him to stay with us. But we also know that there may be offers for young, very talented players that will result in a transfer,” the football director said (via Fotbollskanalen).

Ericsson revealed there have been offers floated for the midfielder’s signature but ‘nothing concrete’ has been brought to the table so far this window. However, he did confirm that in order to convince the board to sell the 21-year-old, it would need to be a record sale for Hacken.

“We'll see, but everyone understands that we hold Silas in high regard. He himself, if he's going to leave, also wants to leave for something really good,” Ericsson continued.

Celtic and Rangers in competition for transfer target

Andersen’s contract in Sweden does not run out until 2028, meaning Hacken are not in any particular rush to cash in at this point.

As the club hold out for a significant bid, O’Rourke reported that it will boil down to who out of Celtic and Rangers makes the most attractive offer.

“If it comes down to between Celtic and Rangers, let’s see who puts up the right offer to convince BK Hacken to sell him, but there’s no doubt that Rangers will be looking to strengthen that midfield area,” he said.

“I think in the January window, Danny Rohl has got a few areas of the squad that he would like to strengthen, and midfield is one of them. Andersen is obviously somebody who is firmly on the radar.”

Both Celtic and Rangers are on the market for new signings this month as they eye a thrilling end to this rollercoaster Scottish Premiership season. Hearts remain at the top of the table but the Glasgow duo are eager to close them down.

The Jambos remain three points clear of Rangers at the top, while Celtic are six adrift. The Gers in particular are on an impressive run under Rohl but the return of Martin O’Neill to the Parkhead dugout could also be what they need to re-enter this season’s title chase and defend their crown for another year.
