Clyde aim to book play-off place with Hampden victory

The bookies’ pre-season favourites saw their title dream bite the dust at Broadwood on Saturday when East Fife secured a 0-0 draw to ensure they would be going up as champions.

But as the visitors celebrated, Clyde boss Barry Ferguson was left to ponder what might have been and instead focus on a showdown with rivals Queen’s Park who are one of three teams just a point behind Clyde with two games to play.

A win for Clyde on Saturday will be enough - anything else will take it to the final day.

As he looks to lift his players Ferguson admitted he could have no complaints about East Fife taking the title.

He said: “The league doesn’t lie. For me the team that finishes top is the best team throughout the season so I’m not going to sit here and say we should have won it.”

Defender Scott McMann agreed - but insisted that nerves didn’t play a part in Clyde’s failure to find a way past the East Fife defence.

He said: “ I think you get nervous before every game and obviously the stakes were high but I don’t think they played a huge part.

“They’ve been the most consistent team throughout the season and you can’t disagree with that. But we’ve let ourselves down in the last few weeks so we can’t really complain.

“One goal would definitely have clinched it but it was just a scrappy game with not much quality in it. It’s very tight now so we just need to kick on and get a victory.”
