Ferguson setback rocks Clyde promotion bid

The 21-year-old has suffered an ruptured anterior cruciate ligament which could rule him out until next year.

Ferguson, one of the Bully Wee’s top performers this season, suffered the injury when he went down awkwardly during the 2-0 defeat at East Fife on January 30.

Further tests have now confirmed the anterior cruciate is ruptured and that Ferguson will require an operation.

The midfielder has been highlighted by manager Barry Ferguson has a player with a bright future in the game and the Broadwood boss says the club will do everything they can to aid his recovery.

That includes offering him a new contract for next season despite huis likely lengthy absence.

He told the club website: “I went with Scott to visit a specialist. Unfortunately he needs an operation and he’s looking at a six to nine month recovery period.

“The operation is planned for the start of March. At the moment there’s still a lot of swelling and stiffness around Scott’s knee so we need to wait for that to go down before the procedure can be carried out.

“Scott’s a young player and someone I have a lot of time for, so we’ll be doing everything we can to look after him properly.

“He’ll be signing a new contract for next season in the next few days - we were discussing an extension before the injury but it’s important that we make that commitment now.”

Ferguson came through the Clyde Youth Academy system and has made 22 appearances this season, scoring three goals.
