Rangers face Aberdeen just days after their hard-fought draw with Bilbao

Second placed Rangers face fourth placed Aberdeen in a match which promises to have an impact on this year’s title race.

Neither team, despite Aberdeen’s strong start, have much of a chance of winning the title this year, but it still remains a match which has implications for when Celtic can begin their title celebrations after another dominant campaign.

Rangers know that if Celtic win, they will need all three points to ensure the title race is not wrapped up before the split, meanwhile a defeat for the Light Blues would guarantee the Hoops the title even if they fall to a second consecutive league defeat.Meanwhile, Aberdeen, who sit in fourth position will be keen to catapult themselves back into Europa League contention with a victory over their long-standing rivals.

The fixture takes place just three days after Rangers’ hard fought 0-0 draw with Athletic Bilbao which saw Barry Feguson’s men keep a clean sheet after Liam Kelly’s penalty save, despite playing nearly 80 minutes of the game with 10 men after Robin Propper’s early red card.

After a gruelling 90 minutes with the La Liga outfit and a challenging trip to the Estadio San Mamés on the horizon, it will be intriguing to see how Ferguson approaches this match and whether there will be wholesale changes. Ahead of an exciting contest at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, we take a look at all the TV details fans need to be aware of.

Head to head record

Rangers recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Aberdeen in their last meeting and will enter the game as favourites despite a series of underwhelming performances away from home. One of those came at Pittordie back in October when they were beaten 2-1 by the Dons, who at the time looked like unlikely contenders for the league title.
