Jeff Stelling asks Rangers sack question as Ally McCoist in Celtic confession and 'not got any money' response
The legendary broadcaster has issued a Rangers question to Ally McCoist - with a Celtic confession in response.
Jeff Stelling has asked the hard question - and it’s left Ally McCoist has been left crestfallen amid the state of his beloved Rangers.
The Ibrox icon has been left dismayed after a 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United on Saturday left Philippe Clement’s side 11 points off Celtic. Talk of the sack or exit for Clement has been cleared in the wake of it but fans are seething with results on the patk domestically.
Then there is the upstairs disruption, with the club operating without a permanent chairman, CEO or academy chief for much of the season. Posting financial losses recently too, it’s been a tough period for McCoist who wants the best for Rangers. They face Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final next month.
On talkSPORT, sport broadcasting legend Stelling asked if he thought Rangers would sack Clement, and while McCoist admits the title race with Celtic is over, he doesn’t think Rangers have the financially power to bin another manager. He said: “It won’t happen. Jeff. I don’t think the club is in a financial place to do that anyway, but it’s been poor.
“The boys were at the game. I didn’t make the game on Saturday. The boys said it was really, really poor. Miles off it. It’s going to be a struggle to finish second this year. A cup final coming up against Celtic. League Cup final against Celtic who again, had another great result over the weekend.
“So to answer your question it won’t happen for a number of reasons, Jeff, and I think the first one being, I don’t think they can afford to. They’ve not got any money to pay people off and things like that. So it’s going to be a long, long period to be brutally honest.
“We’ve got the cup final and I’m going to Nice to watch Rangers on Thursday. I think the uncertainty above him hasn’t helped him, there’s no doubt about it. Yes, of course, results also haven’t been good enough. I get that totally but at this moment in time, I think there’s going to be news breaking later today regarding changes in the board and changes in personnel above him, which is long overdue.
“So hopefully that will come, which will hopefully give them a little bit of stability and they can turn things around a bit But they ain’t catching Celtic this season sadly and it breaks my heart, as you know to say that.”
