Rangers 'could attract' Andrea Pirlo to Ibrox as Italian icon + ex-Chelsea boss branded within their reach

A bold claim has been made surrounding the Italian legend and former Chelsea boss.

Andrea Pirlo has been tipped as a man Rangers have the gravitas to attract - as is a former manager of Chelsea.

The Italian made himself an icon through his playing career at clubs like AC Milan and Juventus. In management, he’s been in charge of the latter, Fatih Karagumruk and Sampdoria and is currently out of work.

Former Premier Leaugue goalkeeper Paul Robinson reckons Rangers have the big name calibre that if someone like Pirlo was available, they are able to land him. Another touted as within Rangers reach is Graham Potter, the former Chelsea manager who’s also without a managerial gig right now.

Philippe Clement is currently in post at Ibrox, with the team third in the Premiership and facing a Premier Sports Cup semi-final with Motherwell this weekend. On Pirlo, Robinson told Football Insider: “I have no doubt Rangers could attract a top manager.

“Look at the managers in the running for the job now, Carlos Corberan at West Brom, Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough, Graham Potter who’s out of work. Andrea Pirlo is one that I like, he was relieved from his job at Sampdoria and was the manager of Juventus for a while.

“He’s got a lot to give and a lot of room to grow in the game. I have full confidence that Rangers could attract a name like Pirlo to Ibrox.”

On Potter, the ex-Blackburn and Tottenham stopper added: “We’re talking about Glasgow Rangers. They’re one of the biggest and most well-known teams in world football. The following that they’ve got, the stadium they’ve got and the support they’ve got.

“Rangers and Celtic, regardless of the SPFL, are a huge draw all over the world. Graham Potter is out of work, those are the type of managers they want to look at. There’s absolutely no doubt they can attract a big name like Potter, and he would be attracted by such a huge job. I know that for a fact.”
