Rangers hero expects star to stay beyond January unless 'ridiculous' fee met as transfer timeline predicted

Midfield mainstay was linked with a move away from Ibrox in the summer

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson expects midfielder Nico Raskin to stay at the club beyond the January window, unless it’s for a ‘ridiculous’ transfer fee.

The Belgian international was close to leaving the club in the summer after a strong World Cup - but Rangers knocked back offers from Besiktas and Hull City to keep him in the building. Since then, Raskin has played a key role in new boss Derek McInnes’ side and has been a regular in centre midfield.

With the 25-year old out of contract in the summer of 2028, there are murmurings of new deals but nothing concrete as yet. In turn, transfer interest in Raskin is expected to resurface in January. However, Ferguson, who managed the Belgian briefly in 2025, reckons he’ll stay until the summer unless the price is right.

When does Ferguson think Raskin will leave?

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Ferguson said: "I don't think they'll do business in January. If he was to leave it would definitely be in the summer unless a ridiculous offer comes in that they can't refuse. I don't think that would be the case and if he is going to go, it won't be in January in my opinion."

Amid the summer transfer speculation, Raskin was left out of some of McInnes’ squads early in the season. However, after deadline day when it was confirmed his immediate future would be in Govan, the pair have since had a strong working relationship.

Raskin has been on record saying he was ‘mentally, ready to leave Ibrox’ in the summer - but was still happy to stay and help the team in the title race. Earlier this week, he echoed his early season thoughts and praised McInnes for putting faith in him.

What is Raskin’s relationship with McInnes like?

Ahead of their clash with St Johnstone, the Belgian said: “Yeah, I remember playing against his team at Kilmarnock and Hearts and it's probably always been the toughest game we've had since I arrived here. So now I'm happy with him coming in here. From the first time I spoke with him, I could feel the love he had for this club. I could feel the ambition he had, and I think the club is in good hands, so I'm very happy for that.

“As for our relationship, he just understands us, he understands what we've been through also and he's helping everyone as much as he can, so it's great for us. I think he's a top manager, if you speak with all the players he's managed, they probably would all say the same. But I also have to say he did surprise me a few times with the tactical part. It’s amazing to work under him, so we now try to look to [the St Johnstone game], bounce back from the last game, and then try to create again a new momentum that will bring us success.”
