Rangers player ratings vs St Johnstone as stats experts hail strike force and intricate winger in routine win
How stats experts rated Rangers in their 4-0 victory over St Johnstone
Rangers got back to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-0 victory over St Johnstone at Ibrox.
The match was all about one man today in Govan - Kim Min-su. In new territory on the left hand side, the Korean was at the heart of every Rangers attacking move, including Kevin Kelsy’s opener and Ryan Naderi’s tap-in. The Venezuelan then struck again before substitute Tochi Chukwuani sealed the three points in blustery Glasgow conditions.
After last weeks slip-up at Dundee, a fast start was required for the hosts - and with the winds of Storm Boelo on their side in the first half, they got one. Kelsy was dropped at Dens Park last week but played with a point to prove all afternoon. On the half hour mark, Min-su broke through the St Johnstone defence, before playing a well-weighted through ball to Naderi, who found his strike partner across the goal for a tap-in.
The Light Blues had enough chances in the first half to put the game out of sight as St Johnstone created next to nothing. There was an understandable air of frustration in the second half when their attacking intent simmered down. However, in the 61st minute, Naderi doubled the advantage with another easy finish. Nico Raskin dispossessed St Johnstone on the halfway line before finding Min-su on the left. His shot was saved by Saints goalkeeper Toby Steward into the path of the Czechia international, who couldn’t miss.
Five minutes later, Kelsy put the game to bed with his second of the afternoon as he got on the end of a flicked on corner. The job was already done but a late red card for St Johnstone winger Kai Fotheringham for catching Raskin high put the nail in the coffin for the visitors, before substitutes Djeidi Gassama and Chukwuani combined for the fourth.
The result puts Rangers back to within one point of leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table - however they travel to Hibs tomorrow. Here’s how stats experts WhoScored rated the Rangers team using their data-driven metrics:

GK - Ivor Pandur - 6.9/10
Not too much to do for the Croatian except from a long range effort in the second half. Another clean sheet in the bag.
RB - Dujon Sterling - 7.2/10
A few silly fouls from the right back - but other than that another assured performance. His physicality played a big factor.
CB - Emmanuel Fernandez - 7.9/10
Not a match where Rangers were hugely tested defensively bar a 15 minute period in the second half - but the Nigerian fared well nonetheless.
CB - Olwethu Makhanya - 7.2/10
Another display at walking pace for the South African. Strolled it again and wasn’t really tested.
LB - James Penrice - 7.1/10
A new winger to link with up on the left hand side for the Scotsman. Was up and down the flank like a yo-yo in his usual fashion.
CM - Dan Neil - 6.8/10
A composed figure in the middle of the park after his Dundee disaster. A much-needed assured display from the captain.
CM - Nico Raskin - 7.4/10
Another who could’ve got on the scoresheet in the first half with a header. Made a vital defensive intervention when the visitors looked dangerous in the second half. Heavily involved in the second goal.
RM - Badredine Bouanani - 6.8/10
Should’ve scored the opener but struck wide from close range when through one-on-one. Always found a way to get onto his favoured left side which was promising.
LM - Kim Min-su - 8.3/10
His natural enthusiasm going forward helped his side all afternoon. Played a huge role in the opener and could’ve easily bagged a few himself.

ST - Ryan Naderi - 8.6/10
Couldn’t stay on his feet in the first half and the referee wasn’t buying it. Linked up with Kelsy nicely for the first goal and right place, right time for his own.
ST - Kevin Kelsy - 9.0/10
Rangers look more dangerous with him in the team. Gave Naderi a hand up top and was rewarded with two more goals at Ibrox.
Used substitutes: Rommens, Gassama, Godfrey, Miovski, Chukwuani.
