Rangers 'negotiation' to sign former star ongoing as late transfer deal for fan favourite turns possibility
Ibrox club have been linked with former winger throughout the summer window
Rangers are reportedly in ‘negotiations’ with Turkish giants Besiktas with a view of re-signing Czech winger Vaclav Cerny.
The 28-year old earned fan favourite status at Ibrox during his loan move from Bundesliga side VFL Wolfsburg during the 2024/25 campaign under managers Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson. After the club opted not to pursue a permanent deal, he left for the Turkish Super Lig last September on a three-year deal. Rangers are now actively seeking a Cerny return, but the clubs must meet an agreement on his price before a deal a struck.
McInnes has already added wingers Daisuke Yokota and Kim Min-su to his squad during the summer window but has made no secret that more reinforcements are required. The Rangers boss is looking for a winger with a creative spark and Cerny would fit the bill.

Rangers in ‘negotiations’ for Cerny
The Turkish Football Federation introduced a new policy at the start of this season which allows clubs to have a maximum of 10 foreign players in their squad and at least four of these players must be under 23. While there other stipulations, this ruling could help Rangers in talks with Besiktas for Cerny - who currently takes up space as a foreign player over 23.
According to Turkish Sports Journalist Sercan Dikme there: “Beşiktaş will definitely make a central midfielder transfer. (Significant budget allocated). Negotiations are underway with Rangers for Cerny; if he leaves, a winger transfer outside the quota will be made. In the event of Ndidi's departure, a defensive midfielder transfer suitable for the U23 quota is planned. Possibilities are being evaluated for a last-day centre-back addition.”

McInnes seeks to bring in more quality
Cerny notched 18 goals and nine assists during his year in Glasgow and in turn was a popular figure among the Ibrox faithful. Besiktas are reportedly asking for £8.5m for their winger, however Rangers are yet to meet this price tag. Another factor which must be taken into consideration is the mammoth wages Cerny is on in Istanbul. Reports suggests he’s on up to £45,000 a week.
As well as Min-su, Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy appears to be in the final stages of his £9.5m to Rangers from the MLS. McInnes reckons the duo will help add ‘quality’ in the final third. He said: "We’re bringing them in to help the team and help others here. So hopefully, by bringing much-needed quality, it helps everybody. There’s no two ways about it, fans need to see more quality. I’m looking for a bit more quality, and hopefully, with that quality, it brings others on as well."
