Rangers player vows to 'get fans off their feet' after sealing Ibrox transfer exit to rival top-flight club

Midfielder returns to familiar surrounding after joining fellow Premiership club on loan for rest of season

Rangers midfielder Lyall Cameron has completed a loan switch to Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee United for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old has struggled to establish himself since Derek McInnes took charge at Ibrox, and the move represents his second temporary departure from the Glasgow giants in a relatively short period.

Cameron spent the second half part of last season on loan at Aberdeen, and his arrival provides the Tangerines with another experienced midfield option following the departure of Vicko Sevelj, who completed a move to Azerbaijani side Neftci Baku on Tuesday.

A return to the City of Discovery carries added significance for Cameron, who grew up supporting United as a youngster despite beginning his professional career with city rivals Dundee. He made more than 100 first-team appearances for the Dark Blues at Dens Park before earning a move to Rangers last summer.

“I’m delighted to be here and am excited to get going,” Cameron told Dundee United’s official website. “It’s no secret my family are United fans so I’m looking forward to be playing at Tannadice in front of the home supporters soon.

“I like to get forward and create chances and score goals and hopefully get the fans off their feet.”

Goodwin: ‘He will really complement our midfield options’

Cameron could be in line to make his United debut as early as this evening, when Jim Goodwin’s side travel to Fir Park to face Motherwell. And the United boss is believes he can make a valuable contribution during the remainder of the season.

“I’m delighted Lyall has decided to join us and I look forward to getting to work with him,” Goodwin said. “He’s no stranger to this city and has tasted a lot of success here in his career to date, but he comes from a family of United fans and wants to make his mark in a Tangerine shirt.

“We think he will really complement our midfield options and also add that know-how of the club and of the area that he can pass on during his time here.”

A Rangers statement read: “We can today confirm Lyall Cameron has joined Dundee United on a season-long loan deal, subject to registration.

“The midfielder, who signed last summer, made 10 appearances for the club before spending the second-half of the 25/26 campaign at Aberdeen. Everyone at Rangers wishes Lyall well for his time on loan.”

Cameron determined to prove his worth

The move to Tannadice presents Cameron with an opportunity to play regularly, regain his confidence, and remind everyone why Rangers signed him in the first place.

If he can establish himself as an integral player for United, Cameron could return to Rangers next summer in a much stronger position - or potentially attract a permanent transfer if his future at Ibrox remains uncertain.
