Rangers transfer state of play as Derek McInnes provides update on possible movement in and out of Ibrox

The Rangers boss has suggested the club are unlikely to bring in more than one additional player before Thursday’s transfer deadline

Derek McInnes expects Rangers to complete one final addition before the transfer window closes on Thursday, with Kevin Kelsy edging closer to becoming the club’s latest recruit.

The Rangers boss told Sky Sports News that work is continuing on another potential deal, but suggested the Ibrox club are unlikely to bring in more than one additional player as things stand.

Kelsy has already undergone his medical after Rangers agreed a deal understood to be worth around £9m ($12.5m) with MLS side Portland Timbers last week. McInnes has already indicated that Rangers have completed much of their transfer business early in the window, but the club remain active.

“We're still working hard to get one in at the minute,” McInnes revealed. “We're getting closer on that one, but we believe it's only going to be the one in.”

The focus at Ibrox is not only on incomings, with a number of players potentially leaving before Thursday’s deadline. McInnes confessed there have been discussions surrounding departures and hinted that movement could accelerate during the final 24 to 48 hours of the window.

“On players out, there's been a few conversations had,” he admitted. “There may well be things develop over the next 24-48 hours on that front. But again, these things are natural.”

Lyall Cameron attracts interest

Dundee United are understood to be in discussions with the Light Blues over a possible move for out-of-favour midfielder Lyall Cameron, with the 23-year-old given permission to leave Glasgow if the right offer is agreed.

United face competition for the Scotland Under-21 international, who spent part of his youth career at Tannadice before being released and subsequently joining arch rivals Dundee. He moved to Rangers last summer but finished last season on loan at Aberdeen.

Rangers could also see further departures, with Nicolas Raskin, Ross McCausland, Bojan Miovski, John Souttar and Clinton Nsiala among those who could move on if suitable deals are secured.

Raskin future remains uncertain

Raskin has emerged as one of the players attracting significant interest, with McInnes confirming that Rangers have held talks with several potential suitors.

No formal offer has yet arrived that meets the club's valuation, however, leaving the Belgium international's immediate future unresolved.

McInnes remains full of praise for the midfielder and insists Raskin's attitude has not been affected by the speculation.

“Nico's been first class,” he said. “He's trained brilliantly, he's trained with a lot of motivation and obviously there's been a lot of chat and potential interest. There's been a lot of conversations had with the club, with prospective buyers. But until an offer comes in that the club need to consider, then Nico just has to let every other player knuckle down and train and he's been brilliant.”

McInnes believes Raskin would have no problem continuing at Ibrox if a transfer does not materialise before the deadline. He added: “I've no doubt that if the window closes and Nico is still a Rangers player, then he'll give brilliant service as he's done previously.

“He's such a good boy and yes, he's getting interest because he's a good player, but a lot of these are hypotheticals. If something comes in that the club need to consider, then obviously that has an impact on me and Nico in terms of where we're at. But he's a good player. I want to work with good players.”

Miovski could leave if Kelsy arrives

Bojan Miovski is another player whose future is yet to be decided. The North Macedonian international is wanted elsewhere in Europe, with Dutch giants Feyenoord among the clubs keen on his services.

Rangers would be prepared to sanction Miovski's exit if Kelsy's move from Portland Timbers is finalised, potentially opening the door for further movement at Ibrox during the final days of the window.
