Rangers told they can spark Celtic anarchy with 'mega' repeat at Parkhead as Hoops doubts begin to fester

Rangers and Celtic will collide this weekend in the Premiership.

Rangers have been told that another win over Celtic could send their Old Firm rivals spiralling.

Mick Brown is an experienced talent spotter south of the border and has worked at clubs such as Manchester United and West Ham United. He watched on with interest at the weekend as Derek McInnes’ Ibrox hosts dominated the Premiership champions during a 3-0 Premier Sports Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

It’s sparked some concern for the Hoops after Martin O’Neill’s team again failed to perform against a team with increased player quality, like they did in the Champions League play-off, when LASK mauled them upon their dismal elimination. Brown feels another Rangers win will create feelings of unrest on the other side of the city, not too far removed from Celtic fans protesting against the board, which dominated talking points at times last season.

What can Rangers do to Celtic if they win at Parkhead?

He told Football Insider: “It's difficult to suggest Martin O'Neill should, or even could have done better at Celtic. He's done a brilliant job since he came back into the role, he's getting good results out of them and they're playing some good football, so it's all been very positive.

"But now they've lost that game to Rangers which is mega, they lost the game in Europe against LASK as well, so a few doubts are creeping in about these big games. I have no doubt, because I've experienced it before, losing games of that magnitude can be difficult for fans to accept, especially losing in the manner that Celtic did.

"So he's got to come back now and bury Rangers next week, to establish that the 3-0 defeat was just a blip, a one-off result. If it's anything more than that, and if Rangers turn up and get another big win next week, then bad feelings will start to foster at Celtic, that's the way it's always been.

Derek McInnes on Rangers 3-0 Celtic

"You can win as many games as you like against the other teams in the division, but if you can't win games against Rangers as the Celtic manager, then that's not good enough for the fans.”

McInnes said: “The game needed our full attention; it needed a big performance, and I thought from minute one we got after Celtic, we tried to play through the lines, we tried to engage with the strikers when the press came, and I thought we just about got the balance right. Ultimately you still need to capitalise on good moments, something we have not been doing enough, and we got good goals at good times.”
