Serie A side 'set sights' on Rangers star as World Cup squad inclusion draws European interest
The latest Rangers transfer news with a current Ibrox star drawing interest from Italy.
The summer transfer window is open and clubs across Europe are already making significant moves against the backdrop of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
Players at the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico have the chance to impress potential suitors on football’s grandest stage and a number of individuals are already believed to be drawing significant interest. For Rangers, who confirmed earlier today that head coach Danny Rohl has left the club by mutual agreement to join Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, one of their stars appear to have fallen into that category.
The tournament has nearly reached the end of the first round of Group Stage matches, meaning we will have seen every team in action at least once within the next 24 hours hours. That has started the rumour mill moving in terms of clubs being linked with potential new signings.
Rangers midfielder draws interest from Atalanta during FIFA World Cup finals
According to reports coming out of Italy, one Serie A side have ‘set their sights’ on Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin during the summer transfer window. Atalanta are said to be interest in the 25-year-old as they look to strengthen their first team squad for the upcoming season.
The Bergamo based club finished seventh in Italian football’s top flight last season, their lowest final position in for years. They have competed regularly in the UEFA Champions League and won the UEFA Europa League in 2024 but will be competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.
Raskin is currently away with Belgium at the FIFA World Cup finals and made his debut at the tournament in their 1-1 draw with Egypt earlier this week. He came on as a 55th minute substitute for Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana.
It was the former Standard Liège player’s 14th cap for his country having earned his first senior appearance last year and establishing himself as a regular call-up ever since. He previously represented the Red Devils at every age of youth international football from under 15 all the way up to under 21.

Rangers signed Raskin from Standard Liège in January 2023 for a reported £1.5 million fee with additional add ons. He had been a regular for the Belgian Pro League side having signed from their rivals KAA Gent in 2018 where he had began his senior career.
Raskin has since made almost 150 first team appearances for the Glasgow club including stand out performances in previous seasons. He made his Belgium debut in March 2025, coming on as an 80th minute substitute in a UEFA Nations League relegation play-off tie defeat to Ukraine.
Establishing himself as a regular for his country has significantly increased reported transfer interest around the midfielder during recent windows. The speculation around Atalanta’s wanted to bring him to Italy is just the latest in a series of reports that have come out during the past few transfer windows.
