Former Rangers star to complete Everton transfer exit as Toffees hold 'significant' future cash option
The defender is set to leave Rangers for Everton on England’s transfer deadline day.
A former Rangers star is set to swap Everton for Serie A on the final day of the English transfer window.
Scotland’s summer recruitment period doesn’t end until Thursday but England’s shuts just under two days earlier, sparking a mass scramble down south, and Nathan Patterson is factoring into it. He joined the Premier League club from Merseyside four-and-a-half years ago in a package worth up to £16m but injuries and lack of selection has hampered his stint.
A Rangers academy product, the 29-times capped Scotland international has now agreed an exit to Torino for a small fee as Everton take a hit on what they initially paid for the ex Ibrox right-back. The Athletic state: “Everton and Torino have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nathan Patterson.
Who is leaving Everton on transfer deadline day?
“The Scotland international, 24, has been given permission to undergo a medical and to complete the formalities of what will be a permanent move. He will sign a three-year deal at the Serie A club with Everton retaining a significant sell-on.
“Patterson joined the Merseyside club from Rangers in 2022 and has gone on to make 68 appearances. He played in only nine games last season, however, after a muscle injury interrupted the first part of the campaign with Jake O’Brien mostly preferred at right-back by David Moyes later in the year. He has made one appearance this term, in the EFL Cup victory over Preston, but has not featured in either of the side’s Premier League matches with Merlin Rohl, usually a midfielder, starting all three games at right-back. Patterson has won 29 caps for Scotland, including making three appearances at this summer’s World Cup as Steve Clarke’s side exited after the group stage.”
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio adds: “Scottish defender Nathan Patterson, born in 2001, has arrived for Torino from Everton: he's already in the city for a medical and to sign. Figures and details. Torino has signed Nathan Patterson from Everton on a permanent deal. A Scottish defender born in 2001, Patterson is already in the city, ready to undergo a medical and then sign a contract that will tie him to the Granata club.

“The deal will be a low-cost transaction, plus a 30% interest on any future resale. The terms and costs are favorable, especially considering the player's contract would have expired in June 2027. A three-year contract is ready for him, until June 30, 2029.”
