What do other cities have that Glasgow doesnt? What does Glasgow need that it doesn’t have right now? Our readers answered those questions and then some
Glasgow is a great city - but sometimes we can’t help but feel like somethings missing.
Whether it was something we used to have which is sorely missed, or is a feature of other modern cities like Edinburgh, London or even Dundee that is absent from Glasgow, in this article we wanted to look at the things that are missing from Glasgow.
We asked readers of both Glasgowist and GlasgowWorld for their thoughts on what’s missing from Glasgow - and in total we got over 1500 responses from Glaswegians young and old, some still staying in the city, and some that are long-gone to new pastures.
It was a hard time whittling down all the responses to the best of the best, but we feel these 20 things are the greatest submissions which should be seriously considered by Glasgow City Council.

9. 24 hour Mac & Cheese restaurants
We love our mac & cheese here in Glasgow - so much so that we want it all hours of the day. The closest you can get right now is the Admiral Woods by Glasgow Central Station, which by the by, has some of the best mac you can grab in Glasgow. | jlmcanally - stock.adobe.com
10. Toilets upstairs in the Barrowlands
Disaster has struck, you really need to run to the toilet but you’re watching your favourite artist play at the Barrowlands. You’ve been looking forward to this for months, but you can’t help it, you gotta go. Five minutes later you’ve pushed your way out of the crowd and down the stairs. Down the stairs! By the time you’ve made it back up you’ve missed so much, and there’s no chance you’re finding your pals. Dear Barrowlands, you’re an amazing venue, hosting some of the best artists in the world, we love you. Please put a toilet up the stairs. Sincerely, GlasgowWorld | Contributed
11. A train to Glasgow Airport
There’s currently a bus route to Glasgow Airport which is pretty reliable, but a train route wouldn’t hurt too. Although maybe we don’t want ScotRail to run that particular route... | Contributed
12. Big Feed in the Park
There’s plenty of pop-ups like Big Feed in the Park, but we want something a bit more regular - how hard would it be to set up some stalls in Queens Park or Kelvingrove once a month or so? | Suppllied
