First time visitors to Glasgow may struggle to say the name of the city - let alone some of the city’s more interestingly named neighbourhoods.
There is a tendency for tourists to say Glass-cow whilst the pronunciation of Scotland’s largest city is, of course. Glaz-go. So with the name of the city already causing issues, we hate to think how people will get on with street names and neighbourhoods.
Here are some of the places in and around Glasgow which have their own distinctive way of being pronounced by residents.

9. Govan
A historic part of Glasgow, this is a name which is sure to confuse tourists to the city. There is no going to a van as Glaswegian’s pronounce the district guv-an. | Google maps
10. Crossmyloof
A very distinctive train station and area it is situated between Pollokshields, Shawlands and Strathbungo. The pronunciation of the south side area is cross-ma-loof. | Scotrail

11. Blantyre
The town can be found in South Lanarkshire just out of Glasgow. Many of the the locals tend to refer to the area as Blant-ur. | Google Maps

12. Possilpark
Centred around Saracen Street, Possilpark is in the north of the city. Locals tend to drop the park and refer to it as simply Possil. That can cause some confusion with those who don’t come from the area would say paw-sill whereas those who do say po-sill. | Google Maps
