'Pawsome' Glasgow pub crowned Scotland's most dog-friendly boozer
Scotland's most dog-friendly pub has been named in a nationwide search by Rover, with the venue impressing testers with its commitment to welcoming dogs.
A popular pub in the heart of Glasgow's Southside has been crowned Scotland’s most dog-friendly boozer.
Church on the Hill, on Algie Street in Shawlands, earned the title in a nationwide search by Rover, whose team of “tavern testers” and their four-legged friend visited 110 pubs across the UK, putting each one through its paces to find the venues going above and beyond to welcome dogs.
Taking the overall title of UK’s Most Dog-Friendly Pub 2026 was The Brandling Villa in Newcastle. The venue impressed Rover's testers with its “commitment to making dogs feel like proper pub regulars”.
After announcing the winner, Rover said: “Four-legged visitors are welcome throughout the venue, with fresh water and plenty of treats on hand. But it’s the extra touches that really helped The Brandling Villa stand out – from dog artwork and larger-than-life murals to its brilliantly named ‘Jimmy Kibble’ treat machine.
“This is a pub that doesn’t just welcome dogs – it celebrates and goes the extra mile for them”.
According to Rover, the competiton for first place was tight, with the aforementioned Church on the Hill and The Lion at Basford in Nottingham sharing second place.
Both boozers were praised for their pup-friendly approach, “making four-legged visitors feel every bit as welcome as their humans”.
Adem Fehmi, Rover’s canine behaviourist, said: "The best dog-friendly venues understand that a warm welcome goes beyond simply allowing dogs through the door – having access to fresh water, enough space to settle and a calm, comfortable environment can all help dogs feel at ease.
"The winning pubs have clearly thought about the experience from a dog’s perspective, while adding plenty of fun touches for owners too."
