Glasgow is home to some of the oldest most historic pubs in Scotland - but more attention needs to be given to the ancient pubs around the city in districts like North Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire, and the rest of the satellite council areas around our fair city.
From Hamilton to Paisley - here’s our list of the oldest pubs around Glasgow.
5. Crow Tavern, Bishopbriggs, 1827
The Crow Tavern is Bishopbriggs is the towns oldest pub - and remains popular to this day
6. Quins Bar, Bishopbriggs, 1857
Opening 30 years later, Quins Bar remains popular with Celtic fans in Bishopbriggs. It’s a proper Edwardian bar with high ceilings, mirrored panels - the bar has lost its old spittoon trough after smoking ban, what a shame.
7. Bull Inn, Paisley, 1901
The Bull Inn is Paisley’s oldest pub - CAMRA describe it as one of Scotland’s finest traditional pub interiors. So it’s certainly worth a pint if you want to pretend you’re a solemn factory worker returning from a shift to a cold pint. (Pic: CAMRA)
8. The Rowantree Inn, Uddingston, 1902
An early 19th-century, single-storey building in Uddingston that was remodelled in 1902–3 by architect Alexander Cullen. The pub retains its original long bar counter in the stand-up bar, with smart sitting rooms either side in 1970s extensions.
