Kick the habit and save money for Christmas

Smokers who kick the habit now could save a whopping £400 in time for Christmas — that’s the message from East Renfrewshire’s health services.

The figure is based on a smoker who gets through 20 cigarettes a day — and cessation practitioners at East Ren’s CHCP smokefree services are offering to help those who want to quit with cessation sessions at Clarkston Clinic and Barrhead Health and Care Centre.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, ERC’s health convener, said: “Smoking does an enormous amount of damage to people’s health and the health of people around them.

“In the run up to Christmas give your health and your finances a boost by coming along for some smoking cessation support.”

The drop in sessions take place at Barrhead Main Street every Tuesday between 5.30pm and 6.30pm — support is also available in Clarkston by booking an appointment on 577 4804.

Community pharmacies across East Ren also offer support to those who want to stop — ask your local pharmacy for details.
