Celtic and Rangers striker target eyed for 'big money' January transfer
Celtic and Rangers both have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the transfer window
Celtic are back in Europa League action on Thursday night with an away trip to Bologna. They then lock horns with Hearts at Tynecastle Park this weekend in the Scottish Premiership. The Hoops beat Auchinleck Talbot 2-0 in the Scottish Cup in their last outing.
As for Rangers, they have a European home clash against Ludogorets coming up. The Gers have been in impressive form under the guidance of Danny Rohl over recent times. They will be eager to keep their momentum going for as long as possible.
Update emerges regarding Celtic and Rangers-linked Kieron Bowie at Hibernian
According to the Daily Record, Hibernian are ‘bracing themselves’ for ‘big money’ bids from abroad for Celtic and Rangers-linked Kieron Bowie this winter. The report suggests the striker is attracting interest from some unnamed teams abroad in Italy, Germany and Belgium. He still has two-and-a-half years left to run down on his deal at Easter Road so his current club are under no immediate pressure to sell.
Bowie, 23, is a Scotland international with two caps under his belt so far in his career. He was snapped up by Hibs back in 2024 and he hasn’t looked back since. The attacker has become one of their most prized assets under the guidance of David Gray and they could now face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere.
The Fife-born man has scored 14 goals in 49 games since his transfer, eight of which have come this season. He rose up through the academy at Raith Rovers and broke into their first-team as a youngster before Fulham lured him to the Premier League. However, he didn’t make a first-team appearance during his time at Craven Cottage and was instead loaned out by the Whites twice to Northampton Town to get some experience and boost his development.
What now for Kieron Bowie amid Celtic and Rangers links?
Hibs won’t want to lose Bowie, especially halfway through a campaign. If Celtic and Rangers do try and lure him to Glasgow, they will now have to see off competition from overseas. It is yet to be known at this stage whether official offers will be lodged for his services before the deadline.
Journalist Kevin McKenna believes he should stay where he is for now and has delivered his verdict, as per the Daily Mail: “Hibs don’t need to sell but, if the rumours are to be believed, the club would require an offer the region on £5-6million just to start the conversation. That’s their prerogative. But, quite frankly, that’s a ludicrous figure.
“He hasn’t done anywhere near enough to convince anyone to part with that sort of cash. That’s not to say he won’t be worth that in the future, but in the here and now? No chance. His tally of 15 goals in 50-odd games for Hibs is decent, but it’s nothing more than that. Those stats need boosting if he is to take his game to the next level and earn a big move elsewhere. For the time being, Easter Road is the best place for him to do that. He’s playing week-in, week-out under a manager who has absolute trust in him to lead the line.”
