Celtic star impresses after International glory moment as Danny Rohl urged to keep Rangers ace amid Tottenham interest
The latest stories concerning both Celtic and Rangers during the International break.
A Celtic ace has helped keep his country’s World Cup dream alive while Danny Rohl has been told to hold onto Rangers’ in-form man despite English Premier League links.
Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic move from Columbus Crew has entered the ‘advanced talks’ stage as the Frenchman looks destined for the Hoops managerial vacancy. While having no European experience, the 48-year old has had a stellar career so far in the MLS, winning two trophies in three years with ‘The Crew’. As the International break reaches the home straight, a Celtic star has impressed for his country after helping produce a historic moment.
On the other side of the city, Danny Rohl is enjoying a well-earned break after a hectic first few weeks as Rangers boss. In spite of the League Cup semi-final defeat, the Gers are unbeaten in the league and have some favourable fixtures after the break. As January looms, interest has grown for a Rangers International star from the English Premier League, however the German boss has been urged to do everything in his power to keep him at Ibrox.
Here’s the latest news stories coming out of Celtic Park and Ibrox during the International break:
Celtic ace proves doubters wrong with World Cup qualifying glory assist
Going into the break, Republic of Ireland needed six points from six to have any hopes of keeping their World Cup 2026 dream alive. Even after a 2-0 win at home to Portugal, the odds were stacked against them against Hungary away, however thanks to a remarkable 95th minute winner from hat-trick hero, Troy Parrott, they somehow sneaked into the play-offs.
In what was a moment that will live long in the memory of Irish fans for years to come, Liam Scales started in both games and was a colossal figure in both boxes for Heimir Hallgrimson’s side. It was the Celtic defender who flicked the ball onto Parrott for the chaotic last minute winner. He also was a rock at the back in the Portugal game, where Ireland kept a clean sheet against the attacking prowess of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao.
For both club and country, Scales has received criticism in the past due to defensive errors, however this season, he has been a consistent performer in the green jersey of both Celtic and Ireland. Prominent Irish Sports Journalist, Enda Coll said of the Hoops defender: “he is not a glamorous player. But if you want someone with heart, grit and a willingness to get his head on the ball in either box, Liam Scales is your man.”
Rohl urged to hold onto ‘key player’ Raskin
Speaking of International stars, Belgium and Rangers midfielder, Nico Raskin’s performances at club and country level have led to him attracting interest from English Premier League clubs. Wolves, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are all in the running to sign the 24 year old, as the latter look to be winning the race so far.
However, in spite of interest from Thomas Frank, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke believes that Danny Rohl should do his best to keep Raskin in Govan, as a ‘key player’ in the Rangers squad. He said: “I think ideally Rangers would like to keep hold of Nicolas Raskin in January. I’m sure Danny Rohl would too, he has been key for the new Rangers manager in recent games as they picked up three wins in the Scottish Premiership.
“There was interest in Raskin in the summer window from a number of clubs, Premier League and across Europe as well, so I’m sure there is still interest in the Belgium international. Rangers are expecting further interest in Raskin in January and next summer as well, and they’ll just be hoping that his price tag will continue to rise. As I said, he’s a key player on that team and Danny Rohl, although he would understand if the club were to cash in on him, he’ll be hoping that he can keep hold of him.”
